Terms of Service

Please read these Terms of Service ("Terms") carefully before using the MealBuddy mobile application ("the App").

1. Operator

MealBuddy is operated by an individual developer ("Operator," "we," "our," or "us").

2. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using the App, you agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the App.

3. Age Requirements

You must be at least 13 years old to use the App (or the minimum age required in your country, if higher).

If you are under 18, you confirm that you have obtained parental or guardian consent to use the App and that your parent or guardian has read and agrees to these Terms on your behalf.

4. Description of Service

MealBuddy is a mobile application that provides personalized meal suggestions based on the ingredients in your fridge, your dietary preferences, allergies, and body goals. The App sends local push notifications with meal recommendations at your preferred meal times.

5. Nature of the Service

MealBuddy is an informational meal suggestion tool. It is intended for general informational and entertainment purposes only.

MealBuddy is NOT:

• A medical service or healthcare provider
• A licensed dietitian, nutritionist, or allergist
• An allergy-detection or allergy-prevention system
• A food safety authority or food testing service
• A substitute for professional medical, dietary, or nutritional advice

All recipes, nutritional information, and meal suggestions are generated from a recipe database and may be inaccurate, incomplete, outdated, or incorrect. They are not reviewed or verified by qualified health professionals.

6. No Medical or Nutritional Advice

THE RECIPES, NUTRITIONAL INFORMATION, CALORIE COUNTS, MACRO BREAKDOWNS, AND MEAL SUGGESTIONS PROVIDED BY MEALBUDDY ARE FOR INFORMATIONAL AND ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES ONLY. THEY DO NOT CONSTITUTE MEDICAL, NUTRITIONAL, OR DIETARY ADVICE.

MealBuddy is NOT A SUBSTITUTE for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Always consult a qualified healthcare provider, allergist, or registered dietitian before making changes to your diet — especially if you have food allergies, intolerances, medical conditions, or specific nutritional needs.

7. Allergy & Health Risk Acknowledgment

By using MealBuddy, you expressly acknowledge and agree to ALL of the following:

• The App's allergen information is derived from a recipe database and may be INCOMPLETE, INACCURATE, OR OUTDATED. Ingredients in recipes can vary by brand, region, preparation method, and supplier.
• The App DOES NOT account for cross-contamination, manufacturing changes, regional ingredient variations, or unlisted sub-ingredients that may be present in food products.
• Allergy and dietary preference data is SELF-REPORTED BY YOU and is not verified by any medical professional. Errors, omissions, or outdated information in your profile settings may result in unsuitable recipe recommendations.
• YOU ARE SOLELY RESPONSIBLE for verifying the ingredients, allergen content, and nutritional information of any recipe before preparing or consuming it. You should ALWAYS read actual food labels and verify ingredients independently.
• MealBuddy is NOT DESIGNED OR INTENDED to prevent allergic reactions or ensure food safety.
• MealBuddy is NOT LIABLE for any allergic reactions, adverse health effects, illness, injury, hospitalization, or death resulting from your use of or reliance on recipes, meal suggestions, nutritional information, or allergen data provided by the App.

8. Food Safety Disclaimer

MealBuddy does not verify, guarantee, or take responsibility for:

• Cooking temperatures or cooking times
• Food storage safety or shelf life accuracy
• Expiration or best-before dates
• Cross-contamination risks during food preparation
• Preparation hygiene or kitchen safety
• Serving sizes or portion accuracy

You assume full responsibility for safe food handling, preparation, storage, and consumption. If you are unsure about food safety, consult a qualified food safety professional.

9. Assumption of Risk

You voluntarily assume all risks associated with:

• Preparing and consuming meals based on recipes or suggestions provided by the App
• Following any instructions, ingredient lists, or nutritional information provided by the App
• Any adverse reactions, including allergic reactions, foodborne illness, nutritional imbalances, or other health effects

You understand that food preparation involves inherent risks and agree that MealBuddy shall not be held responsible for any such outcomes. Use of the App is entirely at your own risk.

10. Emergency Situations

MealBuddy does not provide emergency services. If you experience a severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis), food poisoning, or any medical emergency, contact your local emergency services immediately. Do not rely on the App in any emergency situation.

11. User Accounts

11.1 Account Security

You are responsible for safeguarding your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us immediately if you suspect unauthorized access.

11.2 Acceptable Use

You agree to:

• Provide accurate information during registration and onboarding
• Use the App for personal, non-commercial purposes only
• Keep your allergy and dietary information accurate and up to date
• Not attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App
• Not use the App for any unlawful purpose
• Not create multiple accounts or share account credentials
• Not upload unlawful, harmful, infringing, or abusive content

12. User Content

You may input content into the App, including but not limited to fridge ingredient lists, dietary preferences, and meal preferences ("User Content"). You retain ownership of your User Content. By using the App, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to use your User Content solely for the purpose of providing the service to you.

13. Subscriptions & Payments

Premium features may be offered via Apple In-App Purchases.

• Subscriptions auto-renew unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period.
• Pricing may change with notice. Existing subscribers will be notified before any price increase takes effect.
• Payment and billing are handled entirely by Apple. We do not collect or store payment information.
• Refunds are subject to Apple's refund policies.
• Deleting the App does not cancel your subscription. You must cancel through your Apple ID settings.
• Free trial periods, if offered, automatically convert to paid subscriptions unless canceled before the trial ends.

14. Intellectual Property

All content in the App — including but not limited to recipes, images, text, graphics, icons, logos, animations, and software code — is the property of MealBuddy or its content suppliers and is protected by applicable intellectual property laws.

You may not copy, reproduce, modify, distribute, publicly display, or create derivative works based on this content without our prior written consent.

15. Disclaimer of Warranties

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, THE APP IS PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" BASIS WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED.

We make no guarantee regarding:

• The accuracy, reliability, or completeness of any recipe, allergen data, nutritional information, or meal suggestion
• The availability, continuity, or error-free operation of the App
• The safety or suitability of any recipe for your individual health needs
• The App being free of viruses or other harmful components
• Fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement

16. Limitation of Liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW:

• We are not liable for any allergic reactions, illness, injury, hospitalization, adverse health effects, or death resulting from your use of the App, including any reliance on recipes, meal suggestions, allergen data, or nutritional information.
• We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the App, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of profits, or personal injury.
• Our total aggregate liability to you for any and all claims arising from your use of the App shall not exceed the total amount you have paid to us in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim.
• If you have paid nothing, our total liability is zero.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain warranties or liabilities. In such jurisdictions, our liability is limited to the minimum extent permitted by applicable law. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be lawfully excluded.

17. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless MealBuddy, the Operator, and their affiliates from and against any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from:

• Your use of the App
• Your reliance on any recipe, nutritional information, or meal suggestion provided by the App
• Your violation of these Terms
• Any allergic reaction, illness, or injury resulting from food you prepared based on App content
• Your violation of any applicable law or regulation

18. Account Termination

You may delete your account at any time from within the App (Settings > Delete Account). Upon deletion, your personal data will be permanently removed as described in our Privacy Policy.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account at any time if:

• You violate these Terms of Service
• You engage in fraudulent, abusive, or harmful behavior
• Your account poses a security risk to the App or other users
• Required by applicable law

19. Modifications to the Service

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the App (or any part thereof) at any time, with or without notice. We shall not be liable to you or any third party for any modification, suspension, or discontinuation of the App.

20. International Users

MealBuddy is available to users worldwide. If you access the App from outside the country where the Operator is located, you do so at your own initiative and are responsible for compliance with applicable local laws. Recipes and nutritional data may reflect ingredients, measurements, or food standards that differ from those in your country.

Mandatory consumer protection rights in your jurisdiction remain unaffected by these Terms.

21. Governing Law & Dispute Resolution

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the jurisdiction in which the Operator resides, without regard to conflict of law principles.

Any disputes arising out of or relating to these Terms or your use of the App shall first be attempted to be resolved through informal negotiation by contacting us at the email below.

If the dispute cannot be resolved within thirty (30) days, either party may pursue resolution through the competent courts in the Operator's jurisdiction, unless mandatory consumer protection laws in your jurisdiction require otherwise.

22. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid, illegal, or unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect. The invalid provision shall be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it valid and enforceable while preserving its intent.

23. Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and MealBuddy regarding your use of the App and supersede any prior agreements or understandings.

24. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Changes will be indicated by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page.

For material changes, we will make reasonable efforts to notify you. Your continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. If you do not agree with the updated Terms, you must stop using the App and delete your account.
